In 2013 Eliyahu Weinstein, of Lakewood NJ, pleaded guilty to running a $225 million Ponzi scheme with many co-conspirators, including another Lakewood guy named Alex Schleider. Weinstein got sentenced to 22 years in Federal prison in 2014. In 2021, after spending 8 years in Federal prison, Weinstein’s sentence was commuted by President Trump and Weinstein was free. In 2023 Weinstein was indicted for running another massive Ponzi scheme. He was just convicted by a New Jersey jury last month. Weinstein is locked up in Monmouth County prison while he waits to be sentenced.

Alex Schleider did about 6 months in Otisville when he pleaded guilty back in 2013 for his role in the Weinstein conspiracy. Alex is back in trouble with the Feds again. Alex was indicted in 2023 for running a marketing call center and telemedicine companies to bill Medicare for orthotic devices that were not medically necessary. Schleider’s scheme resulted in a $22 million loss to Medicare. Alex is scheduled to be sentenced in August of 2025. Alex is out on bond with little conditions. The Feds let him “travel with his rabbi and synagogue to Poland from March 31, 2024, to April 4, 2024, for a religious pilgrimage.” Alex pleaded guilty two years ago. He must have been cooperating with the Feds over the last two years.

Alex had to forfeit numerous houses he owned with family members Linda Schleider, Sephie Schleider and George Schleider in different parts of New Jersey, such as Toms River, as well as Jerusalem and Florida. Schleider and his family also had to forfeit numerous bank accounts that they held in various entities. None of Schleider’s family members were indicted.

Alex Schleider was known as “King Schleider” when he was in Otisville ten years ago. His wife and many daughters visited him religiously and took over the visiting room every week, where they massaged his shoulders and hand fed him food thy bought at the vending machines. He expected the other inmates to treat him like royalty. He even smuggled his own silver kiddush cup into the joint for Sabbath meals, which riled up the inmate Rabbis and the guys who were running the kosher food operation. Prison life promotes social equality. Everyone wears the same green prison clothing and has little to no possessions. Everyone is supposed to be equal. To flaunt a silver kiddush cup just creates anger and jealousy among the other inmates and destroys the vibe and ruins the positive prison experience.

This is the thanks he gets after helping the New Haven State’s Attorneys Office get a guilty verdict against a pedophile Rabbi who ran a child sex trafficking operation for decades right under the noses of the New Haven Police Department.
