David Motovich Convicted Of Money Laundering In Brooklyn

On July 30, 2024 Brooklyn macher David Motovich was found guilty by a jury of operating an illegal money wire transfer business, currency transaction fraud, bank fraud, money laundering, identity theft, and a number of other felonies. David ran a $55 million money laundering operation out of Midwood Lumber & Millwork, a family owned business, on Coney Island Avenue. David’s co-conspirators Marina Kuyan, Kemal Sarkinovic, and Joshua Markovics all pleaded guilty and avoided trial.
David tried paying $26K to Sarkinovic to lie to Federal investigators. David tried to get an FBI cooperating witness to fire his attorney and hire David’s attorney, and if he didn’t David would tell everyone he was a “rat.” David was charged with tampering with witnesses.
David flew on private jets, drove high end sports cars, and lived in a luxury penthouse apartment with his wife and children. Apparently they had no idea of the double life David led. David’s wife was not accused of having participated or assisted in any of his criminal conduct.
David ran a massive money laundering operation over ten years in which he cashed millions of dollars in checks from construction companies to fund off-the-books payrolls for those companies. Motovich cashed checks for his customers in exchange for a 15 percent fee.
Motovich told his clients that he would not file Suspicious Activity Reports or Currency Transaction Reports when he cashed checks in amounts greater than $10,000.00. Motovich supplied his clients with fraudulent documents that they could use to disguise the transactions as payments for materials and subcontracting work if the customers were audited by the New York State Workers Compensation Board or tax authorities.
The US Attorney argued at David’s bond hearing that fake vaccination and fake business cards were found at David’s apartment when he got busted. David’s friends posted a $75 million bond to guarantee his appearances at court. David was required to stay on home confinement as a condition of his release, and was only allowed to leave his home for “religious services or employment or education as approved by Pretrial Services.” David signed a legal document in which he agreed to “waive extradition” proceedings if he fled to Israel.
David asked to be released from home confinement in order to “attend the wedding of Liana Rivkin and Alexander Mironov at the Rockleigh Country Club, located in Rockleigh, New Jersey. Ms. Rivkin’s family is close friends with Mr. Motovich and his family, and Ms. Rivkin’s parents are suretors on Mr. Motovich’s bond.” The other sureties on David’s $75 million bond were the following individuals: David’s father Boris Motovich who pledged three commercial buildings located in Brooklyn with a total square footage of 106,000 feet with a value over $50 million; Salomon Murciano, a longtime friend of Mr. Motovich, who earns a high income as the owner of SVES LLC, a clothing importing business in New York City. Mr. Murciano posted two condominium units that he uses as personal residences in Miami, Florida, and that are worth a total of approximately $6 million; Robert Izsak, another friend of many years, is the owner of the Rizaro Organization, which owns and manages multiple real estate properties in New York City; Mordechai (Morty) Bistritsky, a longtime close friend of Mr. Motovich, is the chief executive officer of Wasa Properties, a New York City-based owner and developer of real estate properties in New York and New Jersey. Mr. Bistritsky will pledge his personal residence, a single family home in Rockland County worth approximately $3.5 million. Other individuals who guaranteed David’s bond include: Yisroel Perelson, Pinchos Loketch, Yirmi & Chavy Levy, Ariel Motovich, Eli & Michelle Motovich, and Margareta & Pavel Rotman.
David stayed out of jail for almost three years until July 30, 2024 when the jury convicted David of 16 felonies. Federal Judge William F. Kuntz, II ordered David immediately incarcerated until sentencing. David was hauled off to Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn.
Two months after David was locked up in MDC David’s attorney filed a motion that he receive kosher food. The motion stated: “Mr. Motovich informs us that these ‘meals’ consist of nutritionally deficient, spoiled, contaminated or inedible food. Mr. Motovich’s daily intake of food has left him starving. For breakfast, he is given a bag of oats or Chex cereal. The oats are not cooked, and he has no means to heat them. For lunch, he is given two or three chicken wings, or sometimes hot dogs and beans. The hot dogs are often still frozen or spoiled. And dinner is a can of sardines. These are sub-standard conditions at a basic, human level.” After David was convicted the Special Agent Thomas M. Fattorusso stated at a press conference: “Although David’s shady business allowed him to lease a high end apartment with expensive renovations and luxury cars, today’s verdict will ensure that his next lease is only for a prison cell, no renovations required.” David’s attorney expressed shock at the press statement to Judge Kurtz: “This is an unfortunate and degrading commentary on our criminal justice system. The MDC’s horrific conditions should be the topic of prison reform, not prosecutorial retribution. The deprivation of Mr. Motovich’s religious freedom through inadequate religious meal services is not a just and fair consequence of losing trial.”
Rapper and record producer Diddy and United Healthcare CEO shooter Luigi Mangione are also currently locked up at MDC with Motovich. MDC has the reputation for horrendous and inhumane conditions described as “dangerous” and “barbaric” by a federal court judge who condemned the facility. Say a prayer for David Motovich, or send him a letter at MDC. His inmate number is 61401-509. He has a wife and four kids. He did not commit a crime of extreme violence. He should not be incarcerated at MDC, which is unfit for human habitation. David still hasn’t been sentenced even though he was convicted almost a year ago.

The guy who wrote the Larry Noodles blog took a very long Sabbatical. He observed a two year Sabbath in which he didn’t drink alcohol, cut his hair, touch dead bodies or write blogs about the Goat. Even if he didn’t take his Nazarite vow, his blog was deemed too “scathing” for the State of Connecticut and ordered shut down by the authorities. But he never did a second tour of Otisville prison, Baruch HASHEM!
