Jonathan Braun was the biggest pot dealer in America. Jon worked with the Hells Angels. The Feds kept Braun out of jail for about ten years after he pleaded guilty. Eventually he got sentenced to do ten years in Otisville. After a few years in Otisville he got his ten year sentence commuted by President Trump. He was bunkies with Moshe Butler, who did two stints in Otisville. I heard rumors that he paid a very large sum of money to get his commutation.

After he got out of Otisville he went into the merchants cash advance business. He regularly threatened borrowers. He got sued by the New York State’s Attorneys’ Office which imposed huge fines on him and banned him from the industry. He started to get into a lot of trouble. He got arrested for assaulting his wife, his father in law, a guy at his synagogue and three year old son, a nurse, and tried to sexually assault his nanny.

Braun’s most bizarre arrest was when he was charged with 40 counts of petit larceny. He had taken his license plates off his Ferrari and Lamborghini so he wouldn’t have to pay the high tolls on the New York highways. He appeared at Nassau County District Court on a number of occasions. I saw him in court. Braun was visibly angry and flustered during his time in the courtroom waiting for his case to be called. At one point the Marshal told him to sit down, and Braun snapped at the Marshal. The Marshals rolled their eyes. The Judge told Braun that he could not take pictures in the courtroom. Apparently he was taking pictures of the courtroom in the past and the Judge told him to delete all photos from his cell phone camera. After his court appearance Braun hopped in his white Ferrari, below, and sped off.

I heard rumors that Braun’s wife is looking to get divorced from Braun and Braun is scared as he apparently is broke. But any divorce settlement that would net him money would be taken by the NY Attorney General to pay fines. Brauns wife and kids live in a $5 million home on the Causeway in Lawrence in Nassau County. I would guess Braun will try to shake down his wife for some cash for Braun to sign a “get” which would get her a religious divorce, and not have anything to do with family court. He seems like that type of guy.

Braun is locked up with rapper and record producer Diddy and United Healthcare CEO shooter Luigi Mangione. MDC has the reputation for horrendous and inhumane conditions described as “dangerous” and “barbaric” by a federal court judge who condemned the facility. The only other Jewish inmate currently incarcerated at MDC is Brooklyn money launderer David Motovich. Eight more needed to make a minyan.

RIP Rabbi Sholom Lipskar, who passed away a couple of days ago, the founder of the Aleph Institute, a non-profit dedicated to helping Jewish prisoners.
