Landlord Law Firm In Hot Water with Supreme Court

Attorney Ian Gottlieb represented New York based landlord Kosel Equity, LLC, owned by Gershon Eichorn and Neil Kupferman, in an eviction against tenant Mark MacGregor living in an apartment complex in Middletown. Connecticut Legal Assistance represents Mr. MacGregor and claims that Mr. MacGregor was being evicted because he filed a complaint with the Fair Rent Commission. Mr. Gottlieb filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of the State of Connecticut. Mr. Gottlieb filed a brief with numerous defective citations and quotations from Connecticut Supreme Court cases.
Attorney Gottlieb admitted the following: “Counsel failed to properly proof its citations and references were accurate during the review process… Counsel first learned of the errors when reviewing the brief submitted by the Amici Curiae for New Haven Legal Assistance Association, Connecticut Fair Housing Center, Connecticut Veterans Legal Center, and Center for Children’s Advocacy… Counsel for the Appellant contacted the Chief Clerk to self report…” It doesn’t appear that Gottlieb reported himself to the disciplinary authorities, unlike the Michigan based Stillman Law firm, which recently got in trouble for robo-signing collection cases in Stamford Superior Court, which Judge Sheila Ozalis reported to the disciplinary authorities.
How does a lawyer expect to submit a brief before the CT Supreme Court with inaccurate citations and quotations from the very court that he is submitting his brief? Talk about stupid. Sloppy. Dumb.
