Daniel Greer AKA “the Goat” was tried and convicted of raping Eli Mirlis before a jury in New Haven in the year 2019. The Goat was convicted of molesting 15 year old Eli Mirlis in 2003 at the Goat’s private religious boarding school, ie., the Yeshiva of New Haven. Eli wanted to attend the Goat’s boarding school because it allowed him to escape his family in New Jersey. The Goat didn’t charge much tuition for Eli, as his parents were struggling with finances, along with other issues that required the intervention of social services. The Goat was able to attract more boys from dysfunctional families to the school with low tuition. The perfect victims.

The Goat repeatedly threatened Eli that if he “misbehaved,” and didn’t submit to the Goat, the Goat would send him back to New Jersey. Eli’s family life must have been hell on earth if he would rather stay in New Haven and submit to the Goat rather than go back to his family in New Jersey. During the criminal trial one of Eli’s classmates testified that classes were optional for Eli and Eli was the “teacher’s pet.” Although there was also testimony that at times Eli would try to avoid meeting privately with the Goat, which would result in Eli getting disciplined at school. At one point Ezi Greer, the Goat’s son, heard the Goat and Eli inside of one of the Goat’s apartments, and banged on the door to try to get Eli out. The Goat wouldn’t unlock the door. There was testimony from an expert therapist in which he stated that Ezi was also raped by the Goat.

After Eli Mirlis graduated from the Goat school and got married he returned to the Goat school with his wife and children a few times a year. Eli always spent his time with Ezi Greer. They had a lot in common, they were both raped by the Goat as children. Its not clear why Eli repeatedly kept coming back to New Haven with his family every year. Eli’s wife testified that she knew that Eli was raped by the Goat and tried to convince Eli not to go to New Haven on the High Holidays and at other times. Every time I saw Eli in the Goat’s shul Eli would pace back and forth in the back. Occasionally we would talk during services, which would result in the Goat scolding us to be quiet. I remember the look on Eli’s face when the Goat scolded us like little children. Eli looked like he wanted to kill the Goat. I never saw Eli and the Goat ever speak to each other when Eli returned to New Haven, which I also found to be odd.

Eli Mirlis was born in January 1988. Eli married in December 2007 when he was just 19 years old, a month before his 20th birthday. I was recruited to attend a sheva bracha at one of the Goat’s buildings by Avi Hack. The Goat stopped by to say “Mazel tov” and then left. The Goat didn’t stay very long. This was probably the first time I ever met Eli Mirlis. The sheva bracha was rather odd. It was held in Avi’s apartment with the bochurum from the Goat’s yeshiva. There were no family members from what I can recall. Its possible Eli had a friend attend. Little did I know that the Goat had repeatedly raped Mirlis while he was at the Goat school just a couple of years earlier. The Goat had served as Eli’s “father” at Eli’s wedding, as Eli’s father had passed away, and served as Eli’s sandek upon the birth of Eli’s son.

Eli may have been returning to Connecticut for business purposes, as Eli was involved in the nursing home business almost immediately after he got married, or sooner, who knows. In November 2008 Eli Mirlis signed a personal guarantee for a $3,920,000.00 loan for the purchase of a nursing home in Connecticut with Peoples Bank. Eli was just 20 years old with no education, other than whatever he learned at the Goat’s child rape center, and apparently no money. Eli didn’t learn much at the Goat’s school because classes and exams were optional for him.

How was Eli able to get involved in the nursing home business and sign off on a $4M loan at 20 years of age? Eli was involved in the nursing home business with two veterans in the nursing home industry: Benjamin Landa, a guy from Brooklyn, and Harold J. Moffie, a guy from West Hartford who died a couple of years ago. Landa and Moffie were both big machers in the Jewish community and the nursing home industry. How did Eli “hook up” with these two guys? Is there a connection to the Goat? Did the Goat pimp out Eli to these two guys? Inquiring minds want to know.

Peoples Bank sued Landa and Moffie on the $3.9 million dollar loan in the State Superior Court in Hartford in 2019, around the same time that Eli brought a lawsuit against the Goat which resulted in a $20 million jury verdict. Eli didn’t start to collect on that judgment until recently. He has been paid in full from the sale of Goat properties. Landa ended up suing Mirlis in New York Supreme Court in 2020 because Mirlis signed a personal guarantee on the Peoples Bank loan. That case eventually settled in 2021. The Goat’s attorneys never raised the issue of Mirlis in the nursing home business with Landa, or Mirlis getting sued by Landa, in any of the trials. In the criminal trial the Goat’s attorney Willie the Dow raised an issue about whether Eli was honest on a loan application where he indicated he was worth $50 million. That evidence was kept out of the trial.

Landa was recently nominated by Donald Trump to be ambassador to Hungary. Moffie passed away six years ago. Moffie would be 98 years old today. The Goat is 86 years old. Moffie was from West Hartford and very active in the Jewish community. Landa is from New York and was very active with a Yeshiva in the Far Rockaways, where I believe some of the Goat’s grandchildren attended.
